Creating / Using SAP MDM iViews

MDM gives you couple of .SDA files which when deployed will get the MDM connector up and some MDM content on the EP . It will not give us ready made iViews which we can start using immediately (Like ESS /MSS).
And the reason behind the same is that the repository will be different from customer to customer and so will be the data model. So, the iView has to pick fields from the specified repository and then build the screen. In order to do that, the standard thing that you will have to do is to create a MDM system on the Enterprise Portal, where in you specify the MDM server details and also specify which repository you want to connect to. Once that is done, do the user mapping for the MDM system.
Now, coming to the creation of iViews, what SAP gives you as standard are the following iView types for MDM. The following is the screen shot taken from what will be displayed in EP while you are creating the iView.

Creating a Result Set iView:

The Result Set iView displays the items that match the search settings for all search iViews on a portal page. The iView can display all tables that MDM supports (for example, flat, hierarchy, qualifier, relationship, and key mapping).

  1. Log on to the portal as a content administrator.
  2. In the Portal, navigate to Content Administration → Portal Content. The Portal Content Studio opens.
  3. In the Portal Catalog, navigate to the folder in which you want to create your iView.
  4. In the context menu of the folder, choose New → iView from the context menu to launch the iView Wizard.
The wizard provides step by step guidance making sure you provide all the information required to generate the iView.
  5. Base the new iView on an iView template.
  6. Select the MDM Result Set template from the Template Selection list.
  7. Enter a name (display name) and an ID for the iView (the ID name must be entered without blanks).
  8. From the dropdown list, choose the appropriate System Alias.
The system alias serves as a bridge between the iView and the MDM System Object (which always references an MDM repository).
  9. From the dropdown list, choose the Search Table. This is usually the main table in the repository.
  10. If Result Set is supported, select one of the following table layout types as well as the relative display fields as per the table below:

Creating an Item Details iView

Create the iView from the Template

The system alias serves as a bridge between the iView and the MDM system object (which always references an MDM repository).
  10. From the dropdown list, choose the Search Table.
This is usually the main table in the repository (default setting).

Creating Search iViews:

The portal content provides specific capabilities and user interfaces for accessing and searching MDM repository data. For example, employees in the purchasing department need more than just product information; they also need to know which vendors supply the products. They must therefore search the repositories that contain the product and vendor master data.
You can create the following search iViews for this purpose:
  • MDM Picklist Search
  • MDM Search Hierarchies
  • MDM Search Attributes
  • MDM Search using Qualifiers
  • MDM Search Texts

  1. Log on to the portal as a content administrator.
  2. In the context menu of the iView, choose Open.
  3. In the portal, navigate to Content Administration → Portal Content. The Portal Content Studio opens.
  4. In the Portal Catalog,  find the dedicated folder with your portal content.
  5. In the context menu of the folder where you want to create your iView, choose New  → iView.  The Search iView wizard appears.
  6. Base the new iView on an iView template.
  7. From the Template Selection List choose one of the following MDM templates:
    • MDM Search Picklists
    • MDM Search Texts
    • MDM Search Hierarchies
    • MDM Search Attributes
    • MDM Search using Qualifiers
    • MDM Search States
  8. Enter a Name (display name) and an ID for the iView (the ID name must be entered without blank spaces).
  9. From the dropdown list, select the appropriate System Alias.
The system alias serves as a bridge between the iView and the MDM System Object (which always references an MDM repository).
  10. From the dropdown list, select a Search Table.
This is usually the main table in the repository (default setting).
